Skincare Tips

Skincare Tip #1 - Cleanse First

If you’re about to head to a workout, it’s best to do so with a clean, makeup-free face. As your body heats up during a workout, your pores open and “you don’t want that makeup to settle back into the pores,” Dr Manish Shah

Skincare Tip #2 - Minimise makeup

If you do want to wear makeup when you train look for products that won’t clog pores. Non-comedogenic is the magic word to look for on labels. Or try a tinted moisturizer or sunscreen to give you a little coverage without being too heavy.

Skincare Tip #3 - Don’t touch your face!

Gyms are full of germs and other people’s sweat. This tip is especially important for anyone who’s working with various apparatuses that others are also using, as you don’t want to spread any bacteria onto your skin.

Use hand sanitizer between stations.

Skincare Tip #4 - Keep your hair off your face

If you have longer hair it’s best to keep it pulled back and away from your face during a workout.

This helps prevent oils (not to mention any hair products you used that day) from clogging your pores, which can cause breakouts.

Skincare Tip #5 - Cool off fast

It’s also helpful to cool off skin to prevent breaking of blood vessels and return skin temperature to a normal level quicker. A quick splash of cool water post-workout is a good practice.

Skincare Tip #6 - Wash Gently

It’s very important to clean skin gently following a workout to remove bacteria and sweat residue that accumulated during your workout. Use a gentle cleanser to wash away sweat, oils and bacteria without irritating your skin.

Skincare Tip #7 - Pick the right gym towel

Don’t use a super plush towel, the fluffier and thicker the towel, the more chance it will hold on to bacteria even through a wash cycle. Choose something that doesn’t have a lot of fiber in it, and doesn’t have too many nooks and crannies for the bacteria to hold on.

Skincare Tip #8 - Gently pat dry

Rather than wiping your skin, gently pat dry to avoid excessive friction and damage to your delicate post-shower skin. You should have a bit of water left on the surface of the skin once you’ve dried yourself off with your towel.

Skincare Tip #9 - Moisturise

Use a moisturizer to lock those water beads back into your skin. Treat your face to a calming face mist or toning spray for that extra touch of luxury and revitalisation.
